- Handling food- It doesn’t do a great job when it comes to sterilization as well as tenderizing of the meats that you cook. Also, you will need to add more seasoning to the food to get the actual flavor out.
- Boiling temperature– Since the lid has an opening to let the steam out, the temperature can only reach the boiling point of the water.
Pressure Cookers And What They Can Offer You
Now on to the contender, which would be the Pressure Cooker! If you take one look at them, they have the same parts with rice cookers only with slight differences. This doesn’t mean that they can do the same thing as pressure cookers are more known for cooking at higher temperatures.
Pressure cookers have an inner pot and a heating element plus temperature and pressure sensors. Unlike rice cookers, pressure cookers are tightly sealed with help from rubber linings so that the air and the liquid would not be able to escape the pot. They all remain at a predefined pressure level which you have set.
Using Pressure Cooker Efficiently
You can also find a pressure sensor plus a lid which is responsible for escaping the steam inside of the pressure cooker. Since the steam cannot escape, water temperature can reach up to about 250 degrees Fahrenheit or 121 degrees Celsius. This means that food can be cooked much quicker.
When you want to tenderize certain types of meat, pressure cookers are the best options for the job. You can even find multifunctional versions that can also be used as slow cookers or rice cookers. If you love to saute, steam, and barbecue then you shouldn’t think twice about getting pressure cookers. It can also bake or cook frozen foods.

Pros Of Using Pressure Cookers
- Cooking food faster– If you are looking for a faster cooker, then this would be an amazing choice. The high-temperature capacity of pressure cookers makes this possible.
- Making sure your food is safe to eat– Pressure cookers are known for being able to destroy microorganisms in food. You can even sterilize glass bottle, baby bottles, and cans with it.
- Gives food the flavors that they need- Flavor is no issue with pressure cookers- Pressure cookers promote the Maillard reaction that helps in adding desirable flavors to the food. You don’t even have to add flavoring and seasoning when cooking.
Cons Of Using Pressure Cookers
- Size– for some, they would prefer a smaller kitchen appliance, however, Pressure cookers are bigger and heavier which can be inconvenient for others. Not to mention that they cost more compared to Rice Cookers. If you are single or live with a second half, you can choose a small rice cooker model, check it out.
- Safety concerns– Cleaning pressure cookers can be difficult and there have been concerns raised in using the appliance safely.
- Settings– When you’re cooking rice, you might find it hard and challenging because it does not contain all the menu settings you need.
So Rice Cooker vs Pressure Cooker, Which One to Choose?
Just like with any purchase, the decision is still in your hands in the end. Looking at what both the rice cookers and the pressure cookers can offer you, it will still depend on which one you can work well with.
If you want to work with smaller kitchen appliances then you are better off with multifunctional rice cookers. This is also good for you when you love eating rice.
If you are into cooking more types of food that are more flavorful, then you can go with stove-top pressure cookers. They can cook food faster and you no longer have to adjust the seasoning.
I prefer rice cookers because they are simply more convenient to use in my opinion. And besides, I can cook everything what I want in a rice cooker, rice, soup, pasta, stew, chicken and even a cake, maybe a little longer than in a pressure cooker. So that’s what I want and need if we’re talking about cooking 🙂
